Our Occupational Therapists can help you as follows:

  • Improve Balance and Strength

Falls are one of the biggest reasons for loss of function and a major reason for hospital admissions.

Occupational Therapists can improve your balance and strength in the following ways:

Prescribing tailored exercises to improve both balance and strength.

Prescribe mobility aids to reduce the risk of falls.

Advise on the most appropriate footwear

Advise on making your home environment safer to reduce the risk of slips and trips

Provide advise and support with installing minor adaptations including additional rails, steps or ramps.

Offer support with assisting with decluttering

  • Improve Confidence

At OT-Vation, we recognise that once you have had a fall, it can negatively impact your confidence. Reduced confidence places you at an increased risk of falls, but also impacts on your daily function.

Our therapist will work closely with you to determine the main reason for your fall and how to reduce future risks.

Through daily mobility practice, building strength through tailored exercises and balance activities and potentially the introduction of a mobility aid or additional minor adaptions, we will support you to regain your confidence with mobility and return to a level of independent function.

  • Improve Mood

Low mood is generally exacerbated by a lack of functional ability. Most of our clients express that they are experiencing low mood due to becoming too reliant on other people.

Our Occupational Therapists understand the value of being able to independently complete meaningful activities, whether this is making a cup of tea, or engaging in some light gardening.

We will work alongside you and support you to ensure that you are once again able to engage in occupations that are meaningful to you.

We will complete a full functional assessment to determine what the issues are and following this, provide a tailored OT programme to support you with rebuilding your functional skill.

It is well documented that participating in occupations which is meaningful, greatly improves mood as it provides purpose to life and enhances overall well-being.
